It’s is recommended that you practice making square knots before you start making the actual fishbone hemp jewelry designs.

How to make a square knot instructions.
- Step 1 Grab the cord on your right and bring it over and across the center string.
- Step 2 Take the left cord and bring it under the center string and threw the loop on the right.
- Step 3. Pull the knot tight. You need good tension on all three cords.
- Step 4. Grab the cord on the left and bring it over and across the center string.
- Step 5. take the right cord now and bring it under the center string and threw the loop on the right.
- Step 6. Pull the knot tight.
If this is your first time tying a square knot you may want to practice making a simple necklace or bracelet to get the hang of tying square knots before you start making fishbone hemp jewelry. It’s more confusing to learn to tie a square knot when you have a bunch of extra cords and complications.
#1. Take the hemp cords that you made earlier.
#2. Take the 3 longer cords fold them in half. Create a loop. You will secure the loop by tying all the cords together using an overhand knot. You should have 7 cords hanging loosely below your knot.
#3. Take two of the knotting cords and tie a square knot. Tie the square knot so that it wraps around all the other cords. Leave these cords hanging out to the side. This is your first set of knotting cords.
#4. Pick another two knotting cords and tie a square knot. Tie it around the remaining cords. Exclude your first set of knotting cords keep them off to the side. When you have finished this knot leave these cords out to the side as well. This will be your second set of knotting cords.
#5. Take the third set of cords and tie a square knot.
#6. Take your first set of knotting cords and bring it down below the knots that you just made with your third set of knotting cords. Tie a square knot with the first set of knotting cords.
#7. Keep repeating step #6 with the first, second and then third set of knotting cords.
